We are pleased to be able to offer this Channel Island 22, available because the owner has now purchased the larger version!
Of the Channel Island 22 "Motor Boat and Yachting" magazine in an article July 2016 by Peter Cumberlidge said, "Despite being an old design the Channel Island 22 remains an admirable prototype for a small capable seaboat with its cuddy and awning protecting the helmsman from heavy spray. .....their workboat style hulls established a reputation for seaworthiness in rough conditions. Whilst their accommodation is simple, these pocket cruisers have ranged surprisingly far."
This 1979 version, "Freedom", is in good condition. As the owner says, she is not immaculate but everything works fine and the important kit, engine, rudder, solar panels, batteries, fuel tank (new 2003) etc is in first class order. As well as the all over cockpit tent cover the boat has a very neat (virtually new) cockpit cover that allows the rain to drain off rather than lodge in the top of the cover, which is great for when the boat is ashore.
Freedom offers hydraulic steering. The Mermaid engine was new in 1985 and was reconditioned 1996 with original Mermaid instrumentation. It has done a maximum of 800 hours since. A new Vetus 133 litre fuel tank was installed 2004, and there are two 50 litre reserve tanks. She is shaft drive with 4 blade propeller.
She has been well looked after and continuously updated since the present owner bought her in 1996. The hull was repainted in International Toplac in 2003.
Headroom is 5ft 11ins (1.8m) in wheelhouse and 5ft 5ins (1.65m) in the cabin.
The boat offers two berths in the forward cabin. A separate heads compartment with sea toilet was fitted in 1998. The galley was installed 2002 and features a two burner stove with grill. There is a sink with a manual cold water supply connected to the 22 litre tank.
