“Sunshine” is a Ted Brewer designed 12.8 (42ft LOA) cruising yacht. In 1983/84 she was built at Ft. Myers Yacht and Shipbuilding yard in Ft. Myers, Florida. The 12.8 Brewer design was commissioned by a group of racing yachtsmen who were member of the Knickerbocker Yacht Club on Long Island NY. These sailors all had extensive racing credentials along with substantial coastal and offshore experience in a variety of vessels including the Bermuda 40 and Hinckley Pilot. The syndicate wanted to construct their last “dream boat” which had to be graceful and seaworthy. Ted Brewer was charged with designing a comfortable and safe platform for extended cruising. The yacht had to perform on all points of sail under light and heavy wind and/or sea conditions.
Brewer took the opportunity to refine his previous designs and include a low profile cockpit and raised bulwarks with sea kindly boat that was easily managed by a couple.
“Sunshine” was the third hull laid at FMYS originally ordered by Ed Du Moulin. Because he was busy with his involvement as manager of the America's cup effort he reassigned the yacht to the initial owner who sailed her for 12 years. (Current owners purchased “Sunshine” in 1996).

All woodwork and trim in the cabin and throughout the yacht is satin varnished teak. All flooring is fiberglass with teak and holly inserts offering easy access for below floor storage. LED lighting is accessible throughout interior including staterooms and lockers.
Sleeping accommodations include 2 staterooms, sleeping 4 plus 2 salon berths.
Starting forward of the V-berth is an anchor locker, separated from the V-berth by secure latching teak doors. The forward stateroom is a V-berth with filler.
Moving aft, the forward head is to port. Teak doors lead to the head either from main salon or V-berth.
Main salon has L- shaped settee to port, with an additional settee on starboard with dinning table mounted center line. Going aft on the port side you'll find a spacious and efficient U-shaped Galley. Across to starboard the Navigation station.
A teak door leads to the aft stateroom which can be accessed from the interior companionway or cockpit hatch. En-suite head has full standing shower, corian counter-top, sink and ample storage
Sunshine is equipped throughout with 14 Bronze opening ports with screens. In addition, there are 4 opening hatches with screens. Additional ventilation is provided with Five 12-volt Guest fans located throughout and (2) Nicro day-night solar fans.
Forward of the V-berth is a locker for ground tackle and anchor rode, separated from the V-berth by secure latching teak doors
The forward stateroom is a V berth with filler, LED lighting is accessible throughout including the hanging lockers, you'll find abundant storage via multiple lockers and drawers and under berth. All woodwork and trim is satin varnished teak. All flooring is fiberglass with teak and holly inserts offering easy access for below floor storage.
Teak doors lead to the head either from main salon or forward berth. The head is equipped with stainless sink, corian counter top, faucet, Jabsco manual head, ample storage, shower with shower curtain. Ventilation is provided by a solar fan and a opening port.. Holding tank is 30 gallons and services the forward head. There is deck discharge port and y valve for overboard discharge. (actual tank is located under forward v-berth.
MAIN SALON AREA;
Main salon has L- shaped settee to port, with brass oil lamp mounted on teak enclosed mast. Additional settee on starboard with dinette table mounted center line. Both port and starboard seating are completely upholstered with dark green, suede like material. Port and starboard salon interior is constructed to maximize storage throughout. Under and behind settees is additional storage.
NAVIGATION TABLE; (STARBOARD SIDE)
The Navigation station faces forward and is located to starboard at base of main companionway. Large teak chart table with cushioned seat (storage underneath) opens to store chart kits and plotting tools. Located at Nav. Station is VHF radio, Radar and GPS. Additional storage is under Nav table and along interior wall.
GALLEY; (PORT SIDE)
Spacious and efficient U-shaped Galley is to port. Facing forward is large counter with fiberglass sink and additional storage. Under sink is roll out trash container for ease of use. 3 drawers for utensils and silverware. To port is a 3 burner Galley Maid propane stove with oven. (propane system has 3 types of sensors and controls for safety) Stove is supported by (2) 10 gal.
(alum) propane tanks located in aft port deck locker. Microwave is mounted above stove. Aft side in galley are refrigerator and freezer. Refrigerator has top and and front loading with independent thermostat and has excellent designed access shelves. There are (2) Technatics 12 volt DC compressors, with stainless steel holding plates. (one for refrigerator, one for freezer) A great effective and practical system.
INTERIOR PASSAGE WAY (AFT)
Aft of the navigation table is a passageway to the aft stateroom. In the passageway on the starboard side is a counter-top. One half of counter-top is for tools/supplies,etc and the second half is a battery box. Below the battery box is additional storage. The Battery box contains (6) six volt deep cycle batteries. (Additional 12 volt starting battery is located in engine room) Above the counter-top along the hull are enclosed shelves for additional electronic gear, stereo, etc. A hinged AC/DC panel is next and offers easy access to the breaker switches. To port in the passage way is a vertical storage cabinet with door and engine room access with 2 large doors allowing unprecedented access to diesel, pumps, water maker, hot water tank, refrigeration and freezer equipment.
Teak door leads to aft stateroom. Stateroom has a queen berth, 3 hanging lockers, 2 drawers, additional storage along port and starboard interior wall. Again all woodwork and trim is satin varnished teak plus teak and holly floors. Aft stateroom is also accessible from cockpit companionway, adding easy access to cockpit and an additional safety exit

Large center cockpit can seat 6-8 people. A custom varnished fold out teak cockpit table is stowed beside the aft companionway port side. Cockpit has closed cell cushions, custom designed canvas covered dodger and bimini with side curtain and eisinglass windows. Cockpit has beautifully designed helm with stainless Ritchie compass mounted at the helm.
Helm has operating gauges, switches, windless control, and chart plotter, A 36” leather wheel, VHF radio, mount for autohelm remote control, cockpit lights and electrical access for additional lights. Teak cockpit coaming has five mounted winches, two to port, two to starboard and one aft for the traveler. Port storage built into teak combing, starboard storage designed for poles, brushes, etc. Under port cushions is a large locker for rode, BBQ, boom preventer, etc. Cockpit also has coordinated sheet bags, storage bags all designed to keep cockpit clutter free and efficient. Under captains’ seat is separate locker that holds 6 man Winslow life raft folded especially for locker and very easy to deploy by anyone.

Boom and mast are Isomat. Mast has double spreaders, mast steps, internal halyards. 3 winches are mounted on mast. Height is 55’ well positioned for most bridges. Mainsail is fully battened and mounted on batt cars for smooth lift. With easy access stack pack, mainsail is always covered. Jib (120%) and staysail (100%) are mounted on Pro Furl system that are sealed and very dependable. Besides the fore and aft stay. @ 9/32” there are 3 upper and lower stays at 9/32” and additional lower stays at ¼”on both port and starboard. Noteworthy, all stainless chain plates were replaced 2015. Boom has internal sheets for reefing and for back haul and topping lift. (note: topping lift is uniquely rigged to reduce chaffing while underway).

“Sunshine” is equipped with 200 gallons of fresh water. Two, 100 gal. tanks are located on each side of mast beneath the cabin sole in main salon. A Jabsco Sensor – max VSD fresh water pressure pump drives the system. Hot water is provided by a 10 gal stainless steel water tank or the engine.
Saltwater intake is consolidated in one Vetus 325 “sea chest” for :

A unique valving system that pumps water out of bilge by the diesel raw water pump.

Watermaker power is provided by main diesel and produces 18- 30 gals. per hour depending on water temps. Water pump for system is a Cat 277 Triplex Plunger pump belt driven by the diesel.
Extended Stainless steel bow pulpit has beautiful teak base and dual anchor rollers which accommodates a Delta # 44 lb and Rocna # 55 lb. with 200 ‘ of 3/8 BBB chain. The 200’ of chain is the primary anchor and is directed from bow windless via hawser pipe to center-line of boat under v-berth. Second roller deploys a #44 Delta with 200’ ¾” nylon rode. A Maxwell Nielsen V-1000 electric windless handles the bow anchors. Windless can be controlled from cockpit or from bow with a handheld remote control. Fresh and Salt water wash downs are available on deck at bow.

DECK & HULL;
The hull is a one-piece fiberglass laminate construction with alternate matte and roving, ranging from ½” solid glass in sheer to 1 ½ solid glass on the center-line. There is a balsa core from waterline up to the sheer for weight reduction. There is a molded-in rub rail with bronze striker bar. The deck is thru-bolted on 4” centers with hull and deck bonded with fiberglass and varnished teak cap rail also bonded with 5200 and thru-bolted. “Sunshine” boasts an integrated keel with ballast estimated @ 9000lbs. Sea kindly, sails true.
Deck is designed for easy access with ample room to move from bow to aft with two large aft lockers for equipment and LPG containers. Scupper drains really work and are augmented with 2 additional drains in cockpit. Bow has salt and fresh water wash downs

“Sunshine” is powered by 85 hp Perkins 4-236 diesel engine with a three bladed prop. The engine control is a Morse single lever. The engine room contains a high capacity blower, two auto fire extinguishing systems and extensive sound insulation. 110 gals of fuel is stored in 2 tanks with gauges and manifold system with valves that control feed and return lines for each tank plus valves that allow fuel to flow thru either Racor filter or both. Polishing and transferring fuel can be done via this system.

“Sunshine” has two sources of 110-volt power. It can be connected to shore power with 30 amp power cord. While cruising a 2500 watt Xantrex Freedom inverter/charger is available.
Six, 6 volt Trojan (T-105) 225 amp hour batteries hooked in series/parallel to produce 675 – 12 volt amp hours as the primary source for the “house electrical needs” The starting battery(and backup to house system) is 12 volt. The Balmar 6- series, 139- amp alternator is controlled and monitored by a Balmar ARS – 5 H. voltage regulator. This system is composed of alternator, regulator and digital duo charge. While connected to shore power, the 12 volt system can be charged and monitored by 2500 watt Heart Interface Inverter/Charger.
“Sunshine” has (2) 100w solar panels with custom mounts(at stern of vessel) They provide up to 800 watt hours per day, through a charge controller.
The 12-system is grounded throughout. All metal fittings have lightning protection.
