Tonic’s is one of the best examples of Taiwanese craftsmanship from the era. This vessel sports a solid fiberglass John Norek designed hull with two staterooms and heads, and a full teak interior with galley down. A wonderful, unique, and very livable layout. Forward in the bow area and through a hand carved solid teak door there is a very nice guest stateroom with en-suite head. This stateroom has two single berths, in a bunk style arrangement. A hanging locker is to port and storage is provided under the berths, as well. The forward head opens to this room, and is adorned with another hand carved solid teak door. Moving aft is the galley to port and dining to starboard. While this is the regular dining area, the table in the main salon opens to a full sized dining table for 6, and there is also a breakfast bar off the aft side of the galley. The chef has direct line of site with all those in the dining, salon, and breakfast bar areas. Up a few steps and you are in the main salon, which also has the lower helm to starboard. The salon is very bright as there are windows all the way around. An L-shaped seating area is to starboard (lots of storage under) while a newer leather swivel tub chair and storage ottoman are to port. The room is also flanked by two sliding helm doors for easy access to the exterior side decks. The salon features large windows for excellent visibility. Heading aft by the icemaker and refreshment bar, you descend a few steps in to a very generous beam to beam master stateroom, with en-suite head and shower (another hand carved door), louvered teak hanging lockers, a desk/ vanity with seat, sliding windows, an island queen walk- around berth, and a private sliding companionway door to the aft cockpit. The interior of the vessel has a sole of solid teak parquet. There are four 110-volt electric wall heaters (2 in salon and 1 in each stateroom) that can be run using the generator or shore power.
The exterior of this yacht features a very practical and functional layout. The aft cockpit is a versatile area which is a safe and level step to or from the dock, a place to fish, dive, and also use for some private time. The transom door aft aids in getting everyone in and out of a tender as well. Indeed all will appreciate how safely it is to access all areas of the boat from the swim step to the fly bridge. The aft cockpit is also equipped with pressure water, for hosing off saltwater, mud, and the pets. This additional plumbing is also handy for cleaning the days catch as well. Up the stainless ladder with non-skid treads is the after deck, which is situated over the master stateroom, and covered by a load worthy and robust hard top. This is a large open area with plenty of room for on deck dining for the group, or a few deck lounges. Up a few more steps is the fly bridge. The fly bridge on Tonic is much more than an "upper helm". It is a gathering place all on its own. Padded seating with storage lockers wrap around the perimeter, and the helm's person's seat on the center line. Tonic has the entertaining capacity for family reunions or just the right amount for two in comfort. The exterior of Tonic has decks of nonskid fiberglass which not only adds safety through sure footing wherever you step; but has a design which feels wonderful with bare feet.
While discussing the exterior it should be mentioned that Tonic comes with an AB 11.5’ RIB equipped with a 9.9 Mercury 4-stroke engine. The tender for the outboard was new in 2016. There is a Nick Jackson crane to lift the dinghy to the roof over the sundeck. Plus, this area can also serve as an additional lounging area. To that end they added removable davits in 2012 so that the dinghy can easily be carried and quickly deployed at the stern. Your choice, both options are functional.
Tonic takes cooking aboard up quite a few clicks from what one would normally find in a yacht of her size and price. Those who have owned boats before will appreciate the space and systems devoted to food storage and preparation. Located only a few steps from the salon there are a few reasons that make having the galley down beneficial. First, the chef can see everyone and when the others are seated at the breakfast bar, or around the salon, they are at eye level to the galley person. It is just more comfortable talking when all are at the same eye level when entertaining. Another benefit is it gets the cooking out of the salon. Typically a galley down also features much more storage than a galley up in the salon. Lastly on this topic, the galley is much closer to the 2 axis of movement of the vessel, helping by design to keep things in their places in a lively seaway.
The icemaker in the salon negates the need to hunt for bags of ice when out cruising. Tonic has a large double door stainless steel refer/freezer which is actually large enough to have a few flavors of ice cream on board. Her builders used a clever strategy in dealing with the space usage dilemma of "dead" corners of the galley...they used a bin system so now all the space under the counters is fully useable for pantry or storage items. There is a 3 burner stainless steel propane range with oven, and storage areas for smaller appliances such as the microwave and/or an espresso machine. Her extra deep double sink is large enough for pasta pots, etc. Tonic also comes with a stainless barbeque. This proper yacht stands ready with an environment that is conducive to producing meals of a quality that will only be limited by the chef's creativity and ability.
The upper helm is spacious and can easily accommodate 6 or more. Cushions were replaced in 2014 and the centerline helm chair dyed to match. Lots of storage under the benches. A bimini top that can be easily folded back for those days of sunshine. There are two access doors to the large space forward of the helm. The port door offers access to the propane tank and storage. The starboard custom cabinet door pops off and reveals the swing out navigation display and radio for the helmsman. A stainless destroyer style wheel and full engine and navigation controls along with 360 views make this the preferred piloting position.
A Nick Jackson crane easily lifts the AB dinghy with Honda outboard to stow on this sturdy “roof” over the sundeck. However, with the dinghy deployed, or with it stowed on the stern davits, this area can be enjoyed with a lounger or two in full sun.
Located two steps down from the upper helm area. This is a generous area and the perfect place to set up a table and chairs for al fresco dining. Also a great hangout when underway or at the dock.
The cockpit is accessed from either the sundeck ladder or a couple of easy steps up from the main stateroom. Access to the lazerette and storage is here and a transom door leads to the swim step for easy dinghy boarding. Wash-downs are ready to use.
Moving fore and aft is easy with the wide side walkways that lead from the sundeck to the bow area. The raised area offers even more seating lounging area. There are storage lockers either side of the bowsprit, containing wash- downs. Ground tackle is a 29kg Bruce anchor with 275’ of marked Hi-test chain powered up and down by a Maxwell 1500 windlass. A chain stopper, mooring bit and included bridle make anchoring easy. The original stainless steel 44lb Danforth style anchor is stored under the queen bed.

Engine and Mechanical:
In terms of resale value the John Deere engines are about the best marine engine available for this size and type of boat. Engines were installed new 1996 by a local John Deere dealer in Portland Oregon. Parts are readily available today unlike other engines of this vintage. In general the 6068 is an inline six cylinder engine that is fairly compact at 6.8 liters. This engine has a great reputation for longevity, quietness underway, clean cold start up, reliability and economy underway. Access to the engines is easily accomplished as the floor panels in the salon area lift up to provide excellent access and natural light to the area.

2012: Added custom made St Croix dinghy davits to stern.
2013: All batteries (house and starting) replaced. Replaced galley stove with new stainless steel Force 10 unit.
2014: All fly bridge cushions replaced. Helm seat dyed to match.
2015: Autopilot system replaced with new Simrad units (AP24 controls, computer, compass, and heading sensor) New bottom paint, zincs, etc. All new wiper arms.
2016: New motor (with electric start) for RIB.
2017: House batteries replaced. Replaced galley refrigerator with new Vitrifrigo unit.
Possible moorage available:
Tonic is moored at an open air 63’ side-tie slip at the canal end of a dock at Salmon Bay Marina. This slip affords wonderful views of passing boat traffic, recreational and commercial, as well as a platform for enjoying peaceful sunrises and sun-sets. The slip is designated as a live-aboard space and could be used as such. Transfer of the slip with the purchase of Tonic is possible, although it would involve a transfer fee to be negotiated with the marina.
