This AJ 28 is owned by the same two families in partnership since new. She has been gently run in the Mount Desert Island area summers only, stored inside during the off-season. She comes with her own customized 2-axle trailer. Her fiberglass hull and deck assembly make for ease of maintaining, and her interior teak trim dress her up below. She offers a traditional cabin layout with vee berths forward, galley area and enclosed head in aft cabin. Selkie offers a nice cockpit to enjoy the sights and sounds of the water while offering a canvas-enclosed wheelhouse to be out of the weather--all in a well-built and seaworthy 28' Downeast yacht.
The fiberglass hull with 1/2 Corecell foam core was hand-laid by AJ Enterprises of Winter Harbor, Maine in 2000. All bulkheads and side decks are 1/2" cored, and the platform is 1" cored fiberglass for strength and rigidity. Engine access is through hatch in helm area and platform has 3 hatches for fuel tanks and prop.
2000 Yanmar 6LP-DTE diesel engine, 250 HP, 1065 hours. 2:1 ZF 63A gear. 1 1/2" Aquamet 22 SS shaft swinging a 4-blade SS prop. Sea Star hydraulic steering, single-lever controls. Fiberglass rudder w/1 1/4" bronze shaft.

In cabin aft of rope locker is vee berth, starboard hanging locker followed by enclosed head with manual marine toilet w/Y valve. To port is the galley with Formica counter, 2-burner alcohol stove, SS sink w/cold water, lockers below and outboard. Bomar cabintop hatch and four opening ports for light and ventilation. White bulkheads w/varnished teak trim and doors make a light and attractive cabin. Many lockers and shelves. 5'9 headroom.
Up 3 steps to wheelhouse with helm to starboard. 3 windows in windshield, all equipped with electric wipers. Solid port side with opening window. Helm features SS destroyer wheel, single-lever engine control, gauges, VHF radio, compass, and switches for lights and horn. Soundown overhead. Headroom at helm is 6'2".
Aft is a 8 1/2' wide x 12' long spacious open cockpit with built-in stern seat w/cushion.
