The Catalina 309 was the predecessor to the current 315 model. The only noticeable difference is that the 309 has an L-Settee below at the dinette. The 315 has a "C" shaped settee. There is also a minor difference in the helm seats on the two boats. The biggest difference is the price! This boat shows almost like new, and she is $50K under replacement cost of the current model! She is reluctantly being sold by her 83 year-old owner due to health reasons.
Her current owner took delivery in July 2016. In fall of 2016, a top-quality canvas package was installed by Murphy/'s Canvas, including a combination dodger/bimini (with removable center section for sailing), and a wheel cover.
New electronics were installed, including a VHF radio at the nav station, and AIS, depth, windpoint/windspeed, and autopilot on a pod at the helm.

For her size, the 309 offers extraordinary accommodations for the cruising couple or a small family. She has a spacious and well laid out interior, which is bright, open and inviting. This boat looks virtually brand-new inside. No one has ever spent the night on it, nor cooked on board. She has only been used for a few day-sails by her 83 year-old owner.
The SALON features 6'2" headroom, an L-shaped settee to port, with a dinette that can be switched out for a coffee table. There is a settee to port. Upholstery is "Brisa Cream" Ultra-Leather. There is a filler-piece to convert the settee to a berth. There are numerous opening portlights and hatches, for ample light and ventilation. Cabinetry is varnished teak; the cabin sole is teak and holly. The nav station is to starboard, along with the electrical panel. The interior appears virtually unused. Nothing has been altered or hung on walls, etc.
The V-BERTH has the optional folding door for privacy, with a decent-sized berth that sleeps two. A removable filler piece provides more floor space when not using the berth. A large hatch provides ample light and ventilation. There are reading lights, plus a locker and two drawers under the berth.
The aft cabin features a double berth, opening port, hatch, hanging locker, and reading lights. The boat can sleep up to seven if the starboard settee is used. There are hanging lockers at fore and aft ends of the salon.
The HEAD is forward to port. It has a PAR manual toilet, sink with hot/cold pressure water, and storage cabinet.
The galley features a built-in AC/DC front-loading stainless-steel refrigerator and freezer, sink with hot/cold pressure water, and a 2-burner propane stove with oven. The oven still has the original packaging inside. The stove and oven have never been used. There is an additional top-loading icebox, which comes in handy for parties extended trips.

With her 135% genoa, the 309 has enough sail area for lively performance, even with her furling mainsail. The furling main cuts down on the "work" of going sailing dramatically, especially at the end of the day, when it takes only a minute to "put away" the main. The continuous-loop furling line goes around an external drum on the mast, so there is no way for a furling line to become entangled inside the mast.
The engine cover flips forward, for complete access to the front, top and sides of the engine. The engine appears like new with only 38 hours; still in the initial break-in period. The boat was stored "on the hard" at the dealer until early 2016, so it has only been exposed to salt water for less than two years.
