A one-off design commission by John Alden, the "Iris" was built at the Stone Boat Yard in Alameda Ca. in 1934. The owner, who had his own lumber mill in Oregon, supplied all the beautiful clear Port Orford Cedar for her construction. She was built as a gift to his daughter Iris.
She is beautiful, excellently maintained, and an absolute joy to sail and be aboard. Stout, sea kindly, and fast, she has cruised the West Coast, from California to Alaska, and throughout the San Juan Islands and Inside Passage. Blessed with meticulous throughout her life, she recently underwent an extensive refit in the spring of 2016. Currently part of the San Juan Classic Day Sailing fleet and is available with charter business or alone.
