Designed by Robert Clark and built by Millers of St Monans in 1939. Millers were better known for their fishing vessels and yacht derivatives of those vessels, but they built a good number of fine yachts, this being no exception. It is thought her design was influenced by the 8 metre rule and that she is an 8m Cruiser/Racer at heart, something evident in her elegant long counter and long narrow hull.
In her early years she proved to be a very fast boat with many notable finishes in coastal races around the UK. In the early 1950’s her mast height was reduced by 8′ to make her more easily handled by a small crew and she was sailed to Brazil where she remained for 8 years before coming home. The new mast fitted in 2011 is of the lower height meaning she is not as fast as she was when first launched but is also much easier to handle.
She has been in the present ownership for nearly 30 years and has been cruised around the West Country and France, has appeared at numerous classic yacht regattas and has been raced gently in those events. This spring she had a fresh survey and a refit to follow in order to take care of the small points raised. She is now afloat, in commission and ready to go sailing this season.

Carvel planked in Honduras mahogany copper clench fastened to sawn oak frames with 2 steamed intermediate oak timbers.
Cast iron ballast keel with iron keel bolts.
Iron strap floors fastened with large copper rivets.
Original external Cascover sheathing on the hull removed and replaced with epoxy and glass mat. Thoroughly surveyed and inspected in April 2018 with few defects detected.
Supporting clamp on the beamshelf in way of the rigging with heavy original steel plate hanging knees to add stiffness.
Original laid deck was overlaid with marine plywood and sheathed externally, finished in off-white deck paint. High varnished teak toe rail all round with stainless stanchions mounted through the deck.
Varnished teak coamings to the coahroof and doghouse with bronze framed port lights.
Self draining cockpit with seating at deck level and varnished teak coamings all round. Tiller steering.
Bermudan sloop rig on a keel stepped hollow wooden mast. Mast new in 2011. Original mast fittings kept.
Stainless steel standing rigging to internal stainless chain plates. Rigging new in 2013.
Varnished wooden slab reefing boom with a double tailed mainsheet.
Roller furling headsail with a ProFurl system, new in 2013.
2 x Lewmar 16 self tailing winches on the mast, new in 2018.
Pair of bronze sheet winches on the cockpit coamings.

Beta Marine 20hp 3 cyl diesel new in 2011 with only 146hrs running (April 2018)
Hydraulic drive to a centreline 3 blade Darglow feathering bronze propeller new in 2011. re-pitched in 2018 by Darglow.
3 x 12 volt service batteries and a dedicated engine start battery, all new in 2011. Charged from the engine alternator or through the installed shore power system.
100 litre stainless fuel tank under the aft deck gives approximately 500Nm range
