The Herreshoff Fish Class was designed in 1916 by Nathanael Herreshoff in response to the demand for a sloop with the same sailing qualities as the Herreshoff 12 1/2 adding a small cuddy and large cockpit.  Sidney Herreshoff then designed a modification to the FISH to provide it with a small cabin for more comfortable cruising.  

With Cape Cod Shipbuilding Co's acquisition of the exclusive rights to the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. designs and the ensuing growth of fiberglass boats, E.L. Goodwin worked with Sidney Herreshoff to construct a fiberglass version of the Marlin in 1957.  The fiberglass Cape Cod Marlin was built from the molds and plugs of the Herreshoff Fish with an extended transom.  This was added to allow for a permanent backstay in lieu of the running backstays originally designed with the FISH.

Motor bell housing system is aluminum complete with forward and reverse thrust bearings.

System is smooth, no vibration and little noise.
