Sometimes history really does repeat itself. So, should you find yourself climbing aboard Lady, this 1971 Grand Banks 32, you would give you the feeling your back on her in the showroom as if she’s been kept in a glass case for the nearly past 50 years. Nothing seems to have aged her. The only clue is the updated gear and equipment. She’s simply that stunning.
Lady’s history is one of pure pedigree. Galveston Bay’s legendary yacht broker and dealer, Joe Higgins, sold her new in 1971. Then he sold her again 7 years later to George Francisco, a second-generation yachtsman and long-time friend of mine. He purchased her 2 weeks before I bought my GB 32. He sold her to a good friend of both of ours, Tommy Dickey, a local and life-long sailor. Through the 8 years we owned ours, first George then Tommy and I kept in constant touch with each other regarding maintaining and upgrading our respective boats. Even from then on, I’ve watched the never-ending upkeep and love she has received since ‘79. Thus her illustrious history prevails.
Whenever anything needed repairing, it was taken care of by the bay’s best. Her exterior paint is like a rag-popping spit shine. The interior is warm, cozy and pristine and her engine room is fresh and sanitary as a military chow hall. Although captivating to whoever sees her also bestows on her a great deal of admiration. It takes a certain purist to step up and own a GB woody of her caliber. It’s like owning a unique piece of history.
