The Nauticat range has admired the world over thanks to their good looks, craftsmanship, and sea keeping qualities. Built for the demanding Nordic climate and sea conditions, Nauticat has produced a variety of craft of differing lengths and uses at the Finnish factory. The Nauticat 33 is no exception with over 1200 built from their inception back in 1967 and still available today as the equally popular 331. This particular model is in lovely condition and has benefitted from good owners who have maintained her to a high standard. Two decent cabins, relaxing saloon, bright and comfortable wheelhouse, well-equipped galley, reliable engine, and an easily handled sail plan make this boat an ideal couples cruising yacht suitable for the rigours faced when cruising our beautiful coastline and islands. With her excellent navigation package, safety equipment and handy extras such as a dinghy, outboard and cabin heating, this is a "sailaway" boat that requires little preparation before setting sail on new adventures.
GRP constructed hull with 2336 Kgs lead ballast incorporated into the long keel. Counter hung rudder with keel attachment to prevent damage if in drying harbour or mooring. Under water areas antifouled and anodes changed in July 2018. White topsides with blue coveline stripe professionally polished in July 2018. Raised aft deck with a bench to the rear and exterior helm with wheel steering. Davits added in 2018 to deploy inflatable tender purchased in 2016. Wide side decks make moving around the yacht comfortable and safe. Further safety from the teak-topped safety rails that surround the yacht. Stainless steel bowsprit with wooden base grate, stainless steel stemhead fitting with rollers. GRP wheelhouse with excellent visibility and access either side. Midships access port and starboard from the pontoon. Aft deck, side decks, foredeck and accommodation deckhouse finished in teak. Although original this is in excellent condition. Opening deck hatches at forward cabin, galley and large sliding hatch in the wheelhouse. Opening ports in heads and aft cabin. Deck mounted Lofrans windlass. Large chain locker in the bow. Raised bulwarks forward topped with teak capping. Fairleads, mooring cleats at bow, stern and midships.
Engine & Electrics
Vessel is powered by an inboard Ford 2712E, 90hp workhorse. Although original, this unit has been well maintained, and there is no reason why will not give many more years of good service. This is a low revving engine and will cruise all day happily at 6-7 knots. Even at top speed of 7-8 knots she is very economical. The engine is housed beneath the wheelhouse floor in a sound proofed box. The position of the engine allows easy access to all areas making servicing and daily checks very easy indeed. Most recent service was in 2018. The vessel has 2x108 litre plastic tanks. These along with new deck fillers and pipework were installed in 2018. Lower helm is situated in wheelhouse with full engine instrumentation including rev counter, oil pressure, temperature and charging. An additional NASA Target volt meter was installed in 2018. There are a total of six batteries fitted to the vessel. three cover engine start and domestic power, a further two look after the bowthruster and the remaining battery is linked to the inverter. All batteries have been replaced during present ownership and are between one and three years old. Batteries are recharged via the engine alternator, the onboard battery charger or solar panels. There is a 1000W inverter for use when at sea or in an area with no dock power. Exterior helm features a stainless steel wheel, Single lever morse control, compass, bowthruster joystick and additional DSC VHF radio.
Sails & Rigging
Ketch rigged motor sailor with deck stepped aluminium main and mizzen spars by Selden. Rotostay furling headsail system for genoa and boom furling reefing for mainsail. Stainless steel standing rigging (age unknown) amd braid on braid running rigging all in good order. Anderson single speed halyard winces at mast and Lewmar self tailing winches mounted either side of wheelhouse. Sails include a furling genoa with UV strip, mainsail with sail cover, mizzen and spare mizzen. All sails were laundered and checked over by local sailmaker in 2018.
As with the majority of Scandinavian built boats, both the cabinet work and insulation is superb. The boat is extremely comfortable from the well-upholstered berth cushions and angle of saloon upholstery. The interior was given a makeover in 2006 when all cushions were covered in a soft velour type material in mid-blue. This enhances the teak and mahogany woodwork and compliments the attractive tartan carpets and curtains. The wheelhouse can be entered from either side of the wheelhouse by sliding doors. The panoramic views make this a very pleasant place to sit while on passage or at anchor. There is seating to the rear either side of the aft cabin entrance and an occasional table to port for having a cup of tea or doing the crossword. The helm position is central allowing all-round visibility. Large sliding roof hatch allows extra light and ventilation on warm days. Chart storage to the port of helm with perspex chart holder. Moving aft is the owners cabin with double berth, reading lights, ensuite head, and plentiful storage. Both the sea toilets were replaced in 2018 with Jabsco twist and lock models. Forward of the wheelhouse is the main saloon with well upholstered seating to port and linear galley to starboard. Seating area converts to a large double or can be used as a single. There is storage in hull mounted cupboards and beneath the settees. The galley has a Plastimo Neptune 4500 stainless steel gas-fueled oven with separate grill and 2-burner hob. There is a Vitrifrigo front opening fridge with separate ice compartment and a stainless steel sink with drainer and hot and cold pressurised water mixer tap. The cooker, fridge, sink unit and worktop were all replaced in 2017. Lots of cupboard storage for provisions. Moving forward is the Heads compartment to port with new Jabsco toilet. The interior has been re-lined with plastic cladding and a new shower sump pump installed. Opposite heads is a large hanging locker. In the bow is the front cabin with V-berth. This can be used as two singles or with the addition of an infill can be made into a large double. Opening deck hatch for ventilation, 12v lighting and port lights with curtains. There have been several modifications made to the boat. These include lighting inside all cupboards, 3-pin socket fronts, new 12V spotlights, LED lighting, cabin switches and a new Webasto diesel fired heating system.
