The Swan 391 represents Swan at the apex of its cruiser-racer period, and OxoMoxo is one of the finest examples of the type. Hull #18, OxoMoxo has been cruised, raced, daysailed and passionately maintained and upgraded so she can continue to do it all at a very high level and in Swan style.
Above decks, gear has been kept current with ongoing replacement of running rigging, new stoppers and hardware as needed. The teak deck is original, and has been completely re-bunged over the years and caulk replaced as necessary. The deck shows extremely well with no apparent signs of thinness.
Below decks the original Nautor finish remains in excellent condition. The Swan 391 has a spacious aft cabin with both double and single berths. Ron Holland managed to fit a spacious and comfortable aft cabin into this 39-footer, and the entire works as well or better than some larger Swans.
OxoMoxo has proven herself on the racecourse, winning the tough Van Isle 360 under ORC. Outfitted with both asymmetrical and symmetrical chutes and a roller furling staysail, she’s well set up for ocean racing. A carbon main and #1 headsail headline the inventory. The design was done around the same time as one of the great IOR racers of the time, Regardless.
OxoMoxo harkens back to a time when boats could be both raced effectively and cruised comfortably. More than that, she has actually been upgraded and maintained to do exactly that. Because she was outfitted for and competed in the 2018 Vic-Maui Race, she features current, top of the line, safety and navigational equipment. She was shipped home to save wear and tear on the boat, she was shipped back to the Northwest from Hawaii after the race.
A 2020 survey is available.
Starting in the bow, the forepeak is devoted to sail and line storage. However, a removable pipe berth has been added for additional sleeping. Cabinets are port and starboard for additional storage.
The head is on the starboard side. There’s a sink, counter and plenty of storage. There is a telescoping faucet for showering. Immediately to port is a large double-door cabinet.
The salon features pilot berths to port and starboard above the settee with a table that expands to accommodate 6.
Moving aft, there is a L shaped, compact but efficient galley to port with a large refrigerator/freezer accessed through the countertop. The gimbaled stove is original, but is used regularly, in fact for baking post-race cookies, one of the OxoMoxo traditions. The navigation station is to starboard, and is well laid out for voyage planning and monitoring with a B&G chartplotter and communications equipment, including VHF and Iridium hub that is connected to a permanently installed external antenna.
The interior is typical for Swans of the time, with a 7-step companionway ladder from deck to floor level and a large bridge deck. This layout provides abundant interior volume, allowing a roomy aft cabin. In the aft cabin there is a double berth to port and a single berth to starboard, both with reading lights. The double berth has a new, fitted mattress. There are shelves outboard.

Because Oxomoxo has been actively raced and prepared for the Vic-Maui race, all the sailing and safety gear is in top condition. The Swan 391 is a powerful boat, and Oxomoxo has been equipped to handle all that power. New, lighter carbon sails and oversized winches make this powerful boat manageable.
