The "Newport 30" was designed by the late Gary Mull and had 3 slightly different designs. "Chica" is the mk III who was designed with cruising in mind with the mast moved slightly aft for a smaller main sail and a bigger head sail. She is a great little pocket cruiser, easy to single-hand and very comfortable for a couple who wants to get away for the weekend to cruise around the local islands. The boat is small enough to handle easily, large enough for 3 in comfort. "Chica" is in a great condition with good all-around maintenance and a great paint job. The last owner used it for the past 13 years in Cabo San-Lucas and kept it in the marina year around. The boat was used for sailing around and returning every night to the dock. The headroom and length of beds are good even for tall sailors. Feet will not bump into the bulkheads when laying down!!! The boat will sail amazing in light to moderate winds with no need to use the 2 cylinder Universal Diesel. Very economic engine when you need to use it. The wide beam (10.6) keeps the vessel from heeling over wildly in major gusts. The Newport gives a big boat feel and ride for her size. She is trouble free, stable at anchor, roomy, good looking below, and comfortable.
Buying a boat in Mexico can have some tax advantages in saving you the State Sales Tax and the boat is already where you want to start Cruising. When buying a boat in Mexico, all of the title transfer, paperwork and funds transfers are handled in the United States by a Marine Documentation Services Company for your convenience and piece of mind.
2 cylinders Universal diesel model 18. The engine went through a complete overhaul during July 2019 and since than was operating 250 hours only. Engine was serviced professionally every 200 hours with oil change, oil/fuel filter change. according to manufacturer the continuous output @ 3200 RPM is 14 HP. Cruises easy at 5 knots SOG. Super economic on fuel - less than 1/2 a gallon per hour. With that low consumption you get more than 300 miles range on the diesel only!!! Some spare parts included.
Access to the engine is easy from 4 different directions: The cockpit has a hatch above the engine, the port cockpit locker gives great access for service and for the stuffing box and shaft log, removing the companionway steps gives a great access to the forward side of the engine and a hatch opens from the quarter berth . A great design!!!

This model is also called the "Mark III" and was modified for cruising with its mast moved further aft, wheel steering replacing the earlier tiller, longer waterline length and a diesel engine. Many of the Newport 30 owners used their boats on local regattas and racing and reported some great results. This is a "Big 30 footer" they all say, and when you see it - you will too. A lot of room and a zippy performance makes "Chica" a very attractive boat for some local weekend cruising.
