The CT 38 was designed by New Zealand naval architect Alan Warwick and built by the very reputable Ta Chiao yard of Taiwan. With lines and concept influenced by the Nautor Swan and Baltic sailboats, the CT-38 sloop is designed for maximum blue water speed in the demanding conditions of the Tasman Sea.

The accommodations on MYSTERY are warm and inviting with the carefully crafted teak joinery and high construction standards expected from the Ta Chaio yard in Taiwan. Teak cabinetry and teak and holly cabin sole are offset with reflective white teak battened headliners. The forest green, high thread count upholstery is durable and in good condition. The layout is open with enclosed quarter berth to port and head to starboard of the companionway. The main salon and nav station are forward of the companionway with galley and v-berth forward. Engine access is under the companionway steps, in the lazarette and from the side in the head. There is a teak grate at the foot of the companion way hatch with a removable tray for easy clean up of dirt and water. Ducting for Espar or Websasto Heater has been installed thru the entire boat with the exception of the aft quarter berth. Ventilation from six Bomar hatches and four opening ports is excellent. All the cabinets and storage are well ventilated with louvered teak grates. Mystery's load carrying capability is outstanding and defies the fact that she is a 38' boat.
The main salon has a C-shaped settee/dinette with a teak table that seats four or five. The table lowers to make a double berth. The settee is compartmentalized with batteries and 400 watt inverter under the aft portion of the settee, fuel tank under the outboard portion and refrigeration compressor and drawers under the forward section. Behind the seat back is a nice sized storage locker. Above and out board is a book shelf with two deep drawers under and two deep ventilated cabinets on either side fore and aft. To starboard is a straight settee. Under the settee is another fuel tank. Behind the seatback is more storage and above are two cabinets fore and aft with a book shelf and TV shelf between. The salon is well lit with overhead lights and reading lamps. A brass lamp hangs from the ceiling to provide atmosphere and additional light. There are two side opening ports with bug screens, two fixed ports and a large overhead hatch.
The aft facing nav station has a teak chart table with lifting top. The chart table is deep with plenty of room for navigation tools. On the back part of the table are two inset nooks for pencils and other items that need to be close at hand. Under the table on the side are three drawers for additional storage. When sitting at the table, you face aft, looking at the electrical panel and GPS. There are two adjustable reading lamps and a gooseneck chart lamp. Above the breaker panel is a book case. To port and outboard is the stereo, VHF radio, radar, tank tender, heater controls and bilge pump switch.
The galley is forward of the main salon on both the starboard and port sides of the boat. The amidships location combined with the narrower beam indicates that the cook will be preparing meals in a seakindly galley. On the port side there is a three burner Magic Chef propane stove and forward of that a single bowl stainless sink with hot and cold pressure water as well as a manual water pump. The Xintex propane monitor and control is located next to the stove, just below the sink. Under the sink is a large cabinet for storage with pots and pans stowage under the stove. Above are additional deep cabinets for crockery and stores. Across from the stove and sink are the top and front loading Isotherm 12V refrigerator and silverware drawers with additional cabinets above the counter. The laminate counter top is a spacious. Wempe brass clock, barometer and thermometer face aft on the starboard bulkhead. There are two overhead opening hatches in the galley.
The v-berth is an enclosed cabin. The double berth has a removable insert to provide more space when not in use. Under the v-berth forward is the water tank. There are two cabinets on either side under the v-berth. Above the v-berth are two book or storage shelves and two deep cabinets port and starboard. To starboard aft of the v-berth is a large hanging locker. To port is a relatively narrow strip from top to bottom containing a cabinet, shelf, two deep narrow drawers with a cabinet below. The v-berth is heated and there is a large overhead, opening hatch.
The head is aft of the companionway to starboard. It is finished in white laminate with teak trim. Behind the forward facing toilet is a wet locker. The head converts to a shower. The sink is stainless steel and the nozzle pulls out to make a shower. An electric sump pumps grey water overboard. In addition to the hanging locker, there are three deep storage cabinets. The overhead opening hatch and side window provide good light and ventilation with heat ducted to the space.
The enclosed quarter berth cabin is to port of the companionway and accommodates two people. Under the berth are the hot water tank and second water tank, plus some room for additional storage. Outboard and above is a small cabinet and book shelf. There are two drawers under the foot of the quarter berth. Outboard and forward is a large hanging locker with double doors. There are two opening ports and one overhead hatch.
