Tartan yachts is known for quality and performance at sea. A true passage maker is a boat that carries its crew safely, comfortable, and efficiently from point A to point B, regardless of the weather. The Tartan 40 is a fine example of this breed. A little genius in this boat shouldn't be surprising, for it was designed by Sparkman & Stephens. The Tartans decks are wide, with substantial teak toe rails, and molded nonskid pattern. The large cockpit has extremely comfortable coamings. Tim Jacket combined with S&S to design a bright and roomy interior that rivals any 40ft cruiser. The interior has a large private aft cabin with plenty of storage and a small sink vanity. The Galley is to port and has plenty of storage and counter space. The vessel boasts a large navigation center that has ample storage for charts.

Whisper is one of the last built Tartan 40s designed by Sparkman & Stephens, as is evident in the grace and beauty of her lines. (She is Hull number #67 of 72 boats). The Tartan’s sail area-to-displacement ratio of 17.1 is perfect for a racer/cruiser, confirms her light-air capabilities, but at the same time is a true passage maker meant to go to sea. The Tartan’s side decks are wide, with substantial toe/rub rails and the molded nonskid pattern is hardcore. Although a center board design, most are sailed with the board up and experience little leeway. She is cutter rigged for heavy weather sailing with a removable stay. All lines are led to the cockpit for short-handed sailing and adjustable by a NEW Lewmar self-tailing electric winch. A navigation station convenient to the cockpit, well designed galley and 3 separate cabins all offer efficiency and sea-going comfort under way. Her interior is meant for blue water passages with excellent sea berths and handholds everywhere below. The teak cabinetry presents solid, beautiful and yet forgiving chamfered surfaces. With unmatched speed and sea kindliness in all weather conditions, “Whisper” is a high performance blue water cruiser with exceptional comfort. She is a Sparkman-Stephens’ design classic and her prior owners have spared no expense (over $35K since 2013) to maintain and update her systems.
