Lexington is a superbly equipped Morris 46 that was extensively refitted in Annapolis by the top professionals in the field. Her systems layouts are typically found on yachts twice her size. She is ideally suited for short handed passage making and has all of the creature comforts. Her systems are as proven as her design and she is ready to take you over the horizon. Some of her highlights are listed below.
The following upgrades were performed in 2016
Hull: Solid fiberglass. Initial construction begins with application of 18-20 mils of gelcoat and two skin coats of resin rich fiberglass mat laminated and hand rolled with Hydrex Vinylester Resin. Water line to shear consists of 14 layers (two layers of 1.5 oz mat as a skin, ten alternating layers of unidirectional glass, with waterline to centerline having two additional layers).
Centerline reinforcement, including the keel and skeg area, consists of additional 12 alternating layers of bi-axial fiberglass (total of 26 layers and approx. centerline thickness of 1.5. Two fiberglass reinforced longitudinal stringers.
Deck: Gelcoat and Hydrex Vinylester Resin as applied to hull. 1 Baltec end grain balsa core except in way of hatches, genoa tracks, stanchion bases, mast partners and other deck hardware where solid fiberglass replaces the core material. One piece construction with molded fiberglass bulwark.
All hardware locations are drilled, tapped, bedded, and thru bolted completely through the deck. Trunk cabin sides are solid fiberglass. The deck is permanently bonded to the hull using a horizontal integral laminated hull shelf to which the deck is bedded in 3M 5200 Marine Sealant and thru-bolted on 8 inch centers.
LEXINGTON's interior is classic Herreshoff finish trimmed in cherry with satin varnish. Her forward cabin features a large v-berth double bunk aft of a bulkhead with access to the chainlocker . The forward cabin is completed by extensive storage, both hanging locker and drawers, and an en-suite head. With three opening port lights and a large Bomar reversible overhead hatch, this cabin is both bright and well ventilated. Deck Hardware: LEXINGTON is fitted with a custom hard dodger, with three opening ports on the forward side, and a flat mounting surface on the top to mount solar panels. Double stainless steel wire lifelines with port and starboard opening gates amidships. A three-piece SS boarding ladder mounts at either port or starboard gate. Stainless steel chocks and cleats for docking lines at bow, stern and amidships port and starboard. Double stainless steel anchor roller. Additional chain pipe for secondary anchor chain/rode. Inner forestay tang and tack fittings. Four stainless steel dorade vents with stainless steel guards (on forward set) provide ventilation to forward cabin, forward head and main cabin areas. Stainless steel deck fills for water, waste and fuel. On deck varnished teak include cap rails and cockpit table and drink holder.
Engine is a Yanmar 4JH 57, 4 cylinder, common rail, fresh water cooled diesel engine rated at 57 hp (new 2016). Engine is mounted on four flexible rubber mounts bolted to the fiberglass engine beds integral to hull with a new Aquadrive. Engine is located under the galley counter in an extremely well insulated (sound and heat) engine compartment. Excellent access to engine area through removable panels. Drive train is a new one and one half-inch stainless steel shaft mounted through an Aquadrive system for vibration damping. Dripless shaft seal system with spare seal mounted on shaft. The shaft is fitted with a three blade Gori folding propeller with line cutters. Fuel tanks are of aluminum construction with a capacity of 115 gallons. Fuel filter(s) are Racor dual system with change-over valve. Fuel tank level monitored using WEMA gauge system at nav-station. Primary fuel tank is located under the main cabin dinette platform and is easily accessed for maintenance. Secondary fuel tank is mounted under forward v-berth. A 12V transfer pump and filter system on the fwd tank allows fuel to be circulated for cleaning or moved to the aft tank. All fuel hoses have been replaced and a new fuel manifold has been designed and installed. Fuel is polished as it is transferred.
