Entering from the aft cockpit California deck you are immediately greeted by the spacious salon dressed in teak and fully utilizing a 21’5” beam. Featuring the timeless appeal of teak sole with holly accents, vast windows, teak cabinetry, luxurious ultra-suede headliner, and most importantly, an interior layout that balances form with function. Dining and entertaining guests becomes an effortless experience with an open floor plan encompassing the salon and galley. This layout allows for an open social environment while keeping the function of the galley separated from the rest of the salon.
Starting at the aft port side of the salon is a corner granite topped bar featuring large refrigerated drawers below the counter and glassware storage through three overhead cabinets. Moving forward along the port side of the salon is large settee which reaches to the galley counter.
The starboard side features an expansive storage credenza with a wine cooler positioned at the forward end. An entertainment cabinet is found to the aft corner of this credenza with a 40” Samsung HD TV installed on a retractable lift. Inboard of the starboard credenza is a pair of swivel barrel chairs. Just forward of the aforementioned wine cooler is a dinette featuring a three-seat settee and fixed teak table that provides the option for up to six guests to dine by use of extra chairs to the inboard side.
The galley is tucked to the port side just forward of the salon, which is separated by a large wrap-around granite counter top and overhead galley cabinets. Within the galley you will find a dishwasher, trash compactor, a stainless steel sink with mixer faucet & insta-hot dispenser, a convection microwave overhead, a ceramic cooktop, a stainless steel oven below the cooktop, and a full-sized teak faced refrigerator with matching refrigerator drawers beneath. Teak cabinetry fills in the rest of the galley and across to the opposing starboard side are additional storage compartments and cabinets as well as extra counter space.
Following the steps found to the starboard-side of the pilothouse will lead you to the central accommodations lobby which connects each of the three en-suite staterooms and is home to the full-sized Miele Touchtronic washer & separate vented dryer. Here you will find the mid-ship master stateroom to aft, a guest stateroom to port, and a VIP stateroom at the forward peak.
The mid-ship master stateroom takes full advantage of the full 21’5” beam and features a king sized island berth. This arrangement allows for access from either side and the berth is equipped with a hydraulic lift that can be raised to access a large storage cavity underneath, perfect for storing extra bed linens or keeping valuables out of sight. Nightstands equipped with drawers are situated to each side of the king berth and include wall-mounted mirrors above. A dresser/bureau is found at the starboard wall and features drawers, cabinetry, and shelving, as well as a large port hole above for natural light. To the starboard forward corner of the cabin is a walk-in closet featuring louvered French doors, inboard of the closet is a separate hanging locker with storage drawers beneath. Facing the berth is a wall mounted Samsung 32” HD TV with a Samsung Blu-Ray / DVD player. To the port side of the stateroom is a full length mirror and access to the en-suite master head.
The master and both guest heads are exceptionally spacious with generous glass and stainless steel shower enclosures. Granite countertops compliment the matching granite floor in the one piece molded fiberglass shower stalls. Most of the heads onboard feature stainless steel sink and shower fixtures and each features Head Hunter toliets. Storage can be found through mirrored medicine cabinets, as well as teak cabinetry above and below the counter tops of the each head.
The en-suite VIP stateroom to forward is comprised of two twin-sized berths in a V-berth formation with a nightstand separating them at the peak. Storage is provided by two hanging lockers at the forward bulkhead in addition to cabinets and drawers both above and below the berths. To the starboard side aft wall is a mounted 32” HD TV with Blu-Ray / DVD player facing the berth, as well as access to the en-suite head.
A third stateroom is located to port and, like the rest of the cabins, is accessed from the central accommodations lobby. This en-suite guest stateroom comes equipped with two twin-sized berths with a nightstand as separation. Shelving, drawers, and a hanging locker to the foot of the outboard berth offer plenty of storage for guests. At the foot of the outboard berth is a wall-mounted 19” Samsung HD TV with a Blu-Ray / DVD player. The en-suite head access is located at the forward wall of the stateroom.
The Fleming 78, as with all Flemings, features a dedicated pilothouse which takes the role as the primary location to control the boat without any distractions from other onboard activities. However, it remains only a few short steps up from the salon & galley and it is only another five interior steps up to the flybridge.
Visibility forward and wrapping around to port and starboard is excellent. Below the expansive windshield are specially designed removable consoles which provide ample room for a full range of modern electronics and equipment. Overhead consoles provide additional space for instruments and speakers. Engine displays, electrical breakers, fuel management, and other on board systems are handled through the integrated Boning ship monitoring system.
To the aft of the port side resides a raised corner settee with a granite inlayed teak table provides a comfortable social or dining area with phenomenal visibility while underway. The overhead wall of the settee is capable of hydraulically lowering to reveal a hidden Pullman watch-berth. A day head can be found at the center of the aft pilothouse wall, separating the salon access to port and the flybridge access found to the starboard side. Steps down to the accommodations are found at the forward starboard corner of the pilothouse, just adjacent to the console. To each side of the pilothouse is a sliding door that provides access to the walk-around side decks of the Portuguese bridge. A large stainless steel and teak-accented destroyer wheel and two robust Stidd helm chairs finish off the pilothouse of this ultimate cruising yacht.
The flybridge is easily accessed from the pilothouse door to starboard or by the step ladder in the cockpit. It features a Stidd chair with bench seats to either side at the upper helm station which provides excellent visibility, particularly in close quarters and bustling harbors with its 360 degree view. The electronics console is large enough to house an array of state of the art equipment and can hide away when not in use for protection from the elements. A cushioned lounge is found to the port side of the upper flybridge deck, which provides an excellent spot for kids or grandkids while underway.
Stepping down one level from the upper deck is a social area featuring a wet bar with sink and protective cover along with an icemaker and refrigerator beneath. Cushioned settees are found to either side of this lower deck. Complimenting the larger starboard settee is an adjustable teak table, making this an excellent dining spot above deck.
Overhead, two offset hardtops, along with a full flybridge enclosure, gives coverage and protection to the flybridge deck. The forward hardtop and arch supports the custom hinged mast, domes, open arrays, and other instrumentation.
The flybridge deck features natural teak decking, while the raised upper deck of the helm area features non-skid with outdoor carpeting that mimics teak decking. The boat deck to aft is comprised of non-skid and includes a Texas Pit Crafters grill, aft docking station, and hatch down to the California deck to port. To the starboard side of the boat deck is the davit, tender chocks, tender, and dedicated space for kayak/paddle board storage.
In common with all Flemings, the hull is hand laid and solid fiberglass reinforced with a grid of stringers and frames. The integrated swim platform extends the waterline which adds to the overall length of the semi-displacement hull for a smoother ride. Vinylester resin, which is used on the cabin sides, is also utilized below the waterline on the hull with further protection provided by epoxy barrier coats. A reasonable five foot draft allows for Bahamas cruising while ensuring that the running gear is protected by a full-length keel which is foam filled and glassed across the top to isolate it from the hull. This keel gives nearly a foot length of protection until reaching the running gear. Onboard, all exterior decks are comprised of natural teak and natural teak cap rails and combing boards accent the bulwarks throughout.
On deck she has familiar walk-around decks used on all Fleming models; in combination with high bulwarks, a Portuguese bridge, and full length handrails along the inboard house, security for both children and pets is ensured. The capacious cockpit includes a California deck sporting a large wrap-around settee with a fixed teak table. Protecting the California deck, along with the step-ladder to flybridge and the salon doors, is a full Eisenglass enclosure which allows enjoyment of this space all-year and in any weather. At the cockpit deck are hatches allowing access to the lazarette storage cavity below. Each aft corner of the cockpit has a raised platform with warping winches and the transom features a large gate that swings in to allow ingress to the integrated swim platform. Engine room access to found to the port side, up by the port aft pilaster, via lockable door. To the port side of this cockpit passage is an aft control station featuring engine controls and thrusters.
Moving forward along the side decks you will discover entry gates on each side. These gates provide lower entry close to the water line, meanwhile additional gates on either side of the raised Portuguese bridge give the option for a higher point of entry. The Portuguese bridge provides great dock line storage through hatches along the interior. Up to the bow will bring you to the teak foredeck which incorporates a raised fiberglass non-skid section to the center. Special attention has been paid to the ease and safety in which the heavy duty ground tackle is set and retrieved. The anchor platform accepts two anchors with two winches, each of which can be controlled by a handheld unit at the platform or by windlass controls at both the pilothouse and flybridge helm stations.
Superior systems and engineering are key elements for Fleming Yachts, whose philosophy has always been to choose only the best equipment available and have it be readily accessible for maintenance. The 78 provides more headroom below the deck, allowing for a true standup engine room which gives plenty of room to service the twin 1000 horsepower MAN V-8 diesel engines. The main engine room access is from an outside lockable door along the aft port side deck. To achieve the extremely low sound and vibration that Flemings are known for, Aqua-Drive systems transfer the thrust directly to the hull and the engine is isolated by using soft engine mounts. Aft of the engine room resides the crew quarters complete with berths, a mini-settee, fridge, microwave, and separate head.
The lazarette found beneath the cockpit hatches houses the water tanks and steering gear while also leaving room for additional storage opportunities. Further mechanical equipment is housed with the machinery room located to forward of the engine room. This machinery room is access by a large hatch found at the floor of the accommodation lobby. Much like with the engine room, all components and equipment within this below deck room are very easily reached and serviceable.
