The first impression of the American Tug is the quality of the interior. As you step into the salon from the aft cockpit you are immediately surrounded by beautiful joinery work made from sapele wood with its beautiful straight grain. The textures of carpet and Ultra Leather are warm and inviting. These boats feel right.
The salon features large windows which flood the interior with light. You can see forward past the galley to the raised pilothouse, it is this open feel that makes the interior great for entertaining. A U-shaped settee is on port and features two comfortable corners to lean into. The galley is forward and on the port side, and opposite a wonderful dinette. The entertainment center with a 40" LED television is on starboard, built into a cabinet with electric elevator allowing it to disappear. The comfortable salon faces an electric fireplace with a LED display, it puts out 1500-watts of heat and looks authentic.
Up a few steps from the salon is the raised pilothouse. American Tug makes full use of the large "stack", the defining feature of a tug boat, and provides ample headroom above these stairs. The pilothouse is large, open and provides full 360-degree sightlines. The console is full size and houses large navigation displays. There are sliding doors on both the port & starboard sides. The port side of the pilothouse has additional seating for 3. On starboard are stairs and a companionway to the upper deck. A gorgeous black LeBroc LX helm chair is on centerline.
Forward is the guest stateroom with a double Pullman berth. There is a single upper berth which is ideal for a little one, fishing buddy or your guests luggage. Custom golf club storage locker is under the guest berth. The guest stateroom has a private head with full shower. Ample storage and good ventilation are provided.
The master stateroom is down a few steps and features a walk-around queen berth, a very large private head & shower and nine full suspension drawers plus a cedar lined hanging locker.
Webasto diesel fired hydronic heat circulates warmth throughout the boat with zone thermostats. There are two additional 110-volt heaters, both independently controlled for keeping her warm on the dock or in the off-season. The joinerwork is a warm toned sapele with long straight grain. Carpet is a rich commercial quality in very neutral tone custom selected. The upholstery is Cashmere colored Ultra Leather.
The American Tug 485 has a larger U-shaped galley with a nice peninsula, ideal for preparing family meals or entertaining. The solid surface countertops are beautiful and feature a large single stainless sink. A three-burner Force Ten LPG stove is mounted on the forward counter, complemented by a Sharp convection electric microwave & convection oven. Built with separate Nova Kool refer & freezer, each with independent thermostat and compressor. An additional chest freezer is mounted under counter for easy access. Large capacity cargo drawers & storage cabinets provide wonderful storage. Abundant light and great ventilation via an opening port side window and over stove power ventilation fan.
Built with a state of the art Garmin touchscreen electronics system:
Electronics in the pilothouse:
The American Tugs have wonderful electrical systems that feature ABYC compliance, proper pre-tinned yacht cable wiring, Blue Seas electrical panels, Blue Seas smart battery combiners, AGM batteries and Magnum Energy inverter/chargers. These are all top of the line manufacturers.
The system as designed by American Tug is robust and sized such that the owners do not need to fuss over consumption. Salish Lady has a large Cummins alternator on the main engine that feed the house & engine start battery banks. There are four 8-D AGM house bank batteries. Additionally she has a 2,000-watt Magnum Energy power inverter featuring a 100-amp multi-step battery charger. Three 8-amp solar panels feed the Nature Power Solar Controller, her system is always charging during daylight.
Her shore power system is the robust 50-amp 120/240-volt system allowing to run the washer/dryer at the dock or from the genset. The Northern Lights 9-kw generator is a factory standard on our flagship 485.
Equipped with the commercial duty Cummins QSL9-405hp engine featuring cast iron components and larger displacement. The 9-Litre electronic fuel injected engine delivers excellent efficiency at hull speed and the ability to run faster in "semi-displacement" up to a 12-knot cruise. This is the best of both worlds!
Due to the efficiency of the "common rail" electronic fuel injection and the longer waterline length of the American Tug 485 hull, the engine is equally happy sipping just 4 gallons an hour at 8.5-knots or crossing the Straits when it is rough out, going just a bit faster and keeping everyone comfortable. Control your own destiny and head thru all three narrows up near Big Bay in a single day, then cruise slow and economically where timing and currents are less of an issue. The real power of a semi-displacement boat is opening up alternatives; expect to spend 75-90% of your time at a economical displacement speed, yet run fast thru the rapids and Straits so you control your schedule.
Salish Lady was built with additional systems from the American Tug factory including Sidepower variable speed SEP thruster system, Reverso fuel polishing, Magnum Energy 2000-watt power inverter with AGM batteries, larger 9-kw genset, and solar panels. She is equipped for independent wilderness cruising in total comfort and confidence.
