Arabesque is a Friendship 50, designed by Ted Fontaine and built by Rockport Marine in 2015. Much like the Friendship 40 on which she is based, Arabesque is a classically styled but thoroughly modern gentleman's daysailer/overnighter for New England and Long Island Sound. The switch from a centerboard to fin keel yielded improvements to sailing performance. The extra 10 feet of overall length allow for a private forward cabin, a full galley, more spacious head with a separate shower and more room in the engineering spaces to accommodate a generator, a climate control system and increased battery capacity. The result is an exceptionally beautiful and capable yacht with the graceful sheer and fine ends of a classic, but all the systems and conveniences expected on a contemporary, high-end, custom boat.
The deck on Arabesque is elegant, minimalist and functional. She has a spacious cockpit, well laid out for both sailing and entertaining. Her teak deck is uncluttered, and she's beautifully trimmed out with varnished teak and stainless hardware. Arabesque has an Offshore Spars carbon fiber rig with in-boom furling and two furling headsails (105% 135%) on twin headstays. Sail handing is all push button and accessible from the helm/cockpit with a hydraulically controlled main sheet, 2 speed electric winches, hydraulic roller furling, hydraulic backstay and outer forestay, and electric boom furling.
Arabesque's interior design is also a balance of modern and classic elements. The traditional white paint and raised-panel varnished mahogany joinery is nicely complemented by the more modern raw teak soles and polished stainless steel hardware. The galley is aft to port with the electric cooktop and refrigeration mounted under the countertop. The head and adjoining shower are aft to starboard. In the salon there is a centerline dropleaf table with settee/berths on either side and storage outboard. Forward of the mast is a private cabin with centerline double berth.
Arabesque is an exceptional yacht; a graceful, classically styled daysailer with all the systems and amenities of a modern cruiser and a standard of fit and finish that only comes in a custom build. She’s currently in winter storage in Rockport, ME ready for showings.
